Rooted in fiber and memory, Diana Eusebio’s first solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, explores cultural preservation, ancestral lineage and the enduring connection between people and place.
Drawing from her Indigenous Peruvian-Quechua and Afro-Dominican heritage, Eusebio merges personal narrative with collective tradition, using natural dyes and textiles inspired by both Miami’s ecosystems and the landscapes of her family’s homelands. Her formally trained approach in fiber and textile design intertwines with intergenerational knowledge, reflecting a dialogue between material, memory and place.

Melton Mustafa Jazz Festival

A multi-day celebration of jazz brings performances, workshops and community gatherings to Florida Memorial University in honor of a legacy rooted in South Florida’s music history. Festival programming spans four days and includes dinner concerts, club-style jazz nights, educational workshops and a culminating red carpet concert. Featured performers throughout the weekend include the Jesse Jones Jr. Quartet, the Funk Jazz All Stars, the Florida Memorial University Jazz Ensemble, the Broward College Big Band and the FMU Alumni Jazz Allstars. The festival concludes with a full concert by the Melton Mustafa Orchestra, directed by Melton Mustafa Jr., with guest appearances by South Florida jazz artists including Jesse Jones Jr., Nicole Yarling and Leon Foster Thomas.

The evening’s musical program pays tribute to women pioneers of jazz, drawing inspiration from artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone while also acknowledging contemporary innovators. Visual artworks by women artists are presented throughout the venue, creating a setting that emphasizes artistic expression, resilience and cultural exchange. Admission includes a complimentary glass of champagne and African tapas, and the event is open to the public.

MaameYaa Boafo –the queen bee at an exclusive Ghanaian school–is set on competing in the Miss Universe pageant. However, the arrival of Ericka, an American transfer student, captures the attention of the recruiter along with Paulina’s friends.The play addresses themes such as colorism, classism, and the pressures of beauty standards while providing a humorous take on the challenges faced by teenage girls.

Presented annually by AfriKin in partnership with the City of North Miami, the event brings together chefs, artists and performers to showcase foodways from across Africa and its global diaspora.
The program features unlimited tastings from chefs representing more than 15 countries, offering both traditional dishes and contemporary interpretations. A central highlight is the Jollof Cook-Off, where chefs from countries including Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal compete in a friendly culinary rivalry rooted in regional pride and technique. Live music spanning Afrobeat, reggae and soca accompanies the food programming, alongside dance performances, art installations and a curated vendor village.
