AfriKin: Art, Jazz and Champagne

MaameYaa Boafo –the queen bee at an exclusive Ghanaian school–is set on competing in the Miss Universe pageant. However, the arrival of Ericka, an American transfer student, captures the attention of the recruiter along with Paulina’s friends.The play addresses themes such as colorism, classism, and the pressures of beauty standards while providing a humorous take on the challenges faced by teenage girls.

Presented annually by AfriKin in partnership with the City of North Miami, the event brings together chefs, artists and performers to showcase foodways from across Africa and its global diaspora.

The program features unlimited tastings from chefs representing more than 15 countries, offering both traditional dishes and contemporary interpretations. A central highlight is the Jollof Cook-Off, where chefs from countries including Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal compete in a friendly culinary rivalry rooted in regional pride and technique. Live music spanning Afrobeat, reggae and soca accompanies the food programming, alongside dance performances, art installations and a curated vendor village.
